Dr George Balalis

Bariatric, Upper GI and General Surgeon

Dr Balalis is a specialised Bariatric Surgeon MBBS, M.Phil (Surg) FRACS based in Adelaide. He offers multiple weight loss surgeries, all of which he performs laparoscopically, including primary and complex revisional operations. He is also the leading specialist in non-surgery Allurion Gastric Balloon across Australia and New Zealand, and Adelaide's sole provider of Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty. 

Dr Balalis is extensively trained within and outside Australia. In 2015, he completed a Masters of Philosophy (Surgery) in Oesophageal Cancer at the University of Adelaide. He was then selected for a Fellowship in Upper Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgery with the Australian and New Zealand Gastric and Oesophageal Surgery Association, working from Victoria's The Alfred Hospital. He then became the Post-CCT Senior Clinical Upper Gastrointestinal Fellow at Nottingham University Hospital, UK before gaining further experience in bariatric surgery from the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital, Brisbane. 

Dr Balalis has a holistic and supportive approach to weight loss, diet and lifestyle management. One founded by his personal assessment of each and every patient, to individually tailor treatment without assuming surgery is the best option. His fully specialised team of dietitians, psychologists, bariatric nurses, anaesthetists and an endocrinologist; ensures all patient care (including post operative support) is holistic and collaborative.
