Preparing for your stay

Visitors

Our Maternity Service offers unrestricted visiting hours for immediate family. We encourage mothers to take advantage of a daily rest period between 12.30pm and 2.00pm.

If, at any stage during your stay, you are tired and need a visitor-free period, please inform the staff and display the ‘Please do not disturb’ sign on your door.

To assist staff in ensuring your privacy during your stay, please advise upon arrival if you do not wish callers or visitors to know that you have been admitted to hospital. For further information, read our Privacy Statement.

Supervision of children

Your family and friends are welcome at Burnside Hospital. A responsible adult must supervise any child present in the unit, courtyards, Cafe Otto and in the Attunga Gardens.

For safety reasons, no children (of any age) are permitted to stay in the maternity unit overnight.
