Your Postnatal Room
After delivery, you are guaranteed a beautifully appointed private room on the ground floor or first floor of Burnside Hospital. Ground floor rooms have a courtyard and all patients are able to access the picturesque Attunga Gardens throughout the day, as well as Cafe Otto.
Your room will be fully equipped with private en suite, mini fridge, television, telephone, nurse call handset, hairdryer, WIFI access and access to the kitchenette. You will also enjoy an a-la-carte meal service, prepared on site by our Chefs.
Should you require any assistance or advice at anytime, day or night, the midwives are only a call bell away.
Please note, the configuration of rooms varies and the allocation of patients to rooms is managed according to patients’ clinical needs and the activity within the unit. There are only four family rooms and patients are unable to request specific rooms. Your partner is welcome to stay and be actively involved in your baby’s care.
Special Care Nursery
Specialised care for your baby is always on hand in our centrally located, well equipped accredited Level 4 Nursery. This is the ideal place for you to learn how to care for your baby so you will feel confident once at home.
Should your baby need extra care or monitoring, our team of highly trained professionals are there to nurture and promote growth and support and a return to health. Our team works tirelessly and with great dedication and the nursery is staffed around the clock.
Your baby’s condition may require admission to the special care nursery for monitoring and treatment. This means that your baby becomes a formally admitted patient in his or her own right. In most cases, your health fund will charge excess for your baby’s care, unless otherwise advised. If you have any concerns regarding the nursery admission, please contact your health fund seeking clarification and register your baby (if you have not already done so) onto your family policy.
In some circumstances, your baby’s stay in the nursery may extend beyond your stay in our Maternity Unit. While we are unable to provide accommodation for mothers in this situation, we will endeavour to provide ‘rooming-in’ just prior to your baby’s discharge.
