Coming in for an operation, procedure or delivery?

What to pack if staying overnight

Before coming to hospital, we recommend reviewing our guidelines on what to bring and what should be left at home.

We request that you please try to limit what you bring to one (1) small cabin bag, no more than 8kg to meet health and safety guidelines. Avoid bringing unnecessary clothing, personal or valuable belongings including jewellery. 

We ask that you only bring items you specifically require, such as:

Medication

Please obtain an up-to-date list of your current medications from your general practitioner or local pharmacist. Please bring this list with you to hospital.

Please bring all your current medications and prescribed dosage (including insulin, supplements and alternative medications) with you in the original packaging. Medications must be in the original packaging in your name in order for us to be able to administer them to you in hospital (please do not bring Webster packs or dosette boxes).

Clothing
  • Loose, comfortable clothing 
  • Dressing gown and sleepwear / pyjamas
Footwear
  • Slippers 
  • Footwear which holds the foot firmly and provides support when walking
Personal Toiletries

Please bring with you all personal toiletries including:

  • Shampoo and Conditioner
  • Toothbrush
  • Toothpaste
  • Body Wash / Soap
  • Tissues / Wipes
Aids

Physical aids such as crutches/walking aids. Please ensure that they are clearly labelled with your name.

Glasses, contact lenses or hearing aids and a case to safely store them in.

Other
  • Phone charger

  • Book, magazine or light reading material

  • Small amount of cash for any incidentals from Cafe Otto


We strongly advise that you do not to bring any valuable items to hospital. This includes jewellery or other valuables of either sentimental or monetary value, and / or large amounts of cash.


Sleep Centre Patients

In addition to the above listed recommendations, we requiest that Sleep Centre patients only will need to bring with them:

  • Your own pillow
  • If you usually take a sleeping tablet, please bring it with you to take before bed, otherwise, please do not take any sleeping tablets or use any sleeping aids
  • Please ensure that you have your evening meal prior to admission as only a light supper is provided
  • If you normally consume any alcohol prior to retiring for the evening, please ensure that you bring this in with you. The Hospital will not supply this.
