Meals
Nourishing meals are an important part of your recovery journey. We believe that delicious, nutritious food is not only essential for good physical health, but also contributes to your overall comfort and satisfaction during your stay at Burnside Hospital.
Our talented chefs take great pride in preparing freshly-cooked hot and nutritious meals on-site every day, making each dish with care and attention to detail. We provide a high-quality dining experience, offering a diverse and thoughtfully crafted menu that caters to a wide range of tastes and dietary needs to support your health and well-being during your hospital stay.
Whether you have specific dietary preferences, require gluten-free, dairy-free, low-sodium, or other specialty meals, our team is dedicated to meeting your needs.
Our team is always happy to assist with any preferences or questions you may have about your meals, so that you feel well-cared-for during your stay.
In Room Entertainment and Wi‑Fi
At Burnside Hospital, we want your stay to be as comfortable and enjoyable as possible, including your in-room entertainment experience.
While we provide access to free-to-air television, radio, and free Wi-Fi, we also encourage patients to bring their own devices such as a tablet, iPad, smartphone or laptop so you can take full advantage of your home streaming options like Netflix, Stan, and other services.
By bringing your own devices, you can enjoy your favourite shows, movies, and other entertainment from the comfort of your room. Whether you're looking to relax with a film, binge-watch a series, or stream music, you'll have plenty of options at your fingertips.
Our free Wi-Fi helps you stay connected while enjoying uninterrupted streaming during your stay.
If you need assistance setting up your device or connecting to the Wi-Fi, our friendly staff are here to help.
We aim to make your stay as enjoyable and relaxing as possible, so you can focus on your recovery while staying entertained and connected with the outside world.
Housekeeping
During your stay, our housekeeping team will clean your room daily to ensure your comfort and maintain a hygienic environment.
Cleaning times may vary, and this routine follows the highest infection control standards to provide you with a safe and pleasant experience.
Smoking and Vaping
Burnside Hospital promotes the health and safety of staff, patients, and visitors to our Toorak Gardens and Stepney facilities. Our hospitals are smoke-free and vape-free environments.
Smoking and vaping are strictly prohibited throughout all Burnside Hospital buildings at our Toorak Gardens and Stepney sites. This includes the adjoining outdoor areas and within 10 metres of the facilities’ boundaries. Attunga Gardens (Toorak Gardens) is also a designated smoke-free outdoor space with signage in place, in collaboration with the City of Burnside.
Electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) are also not permitted for use by staff, patients, or visitors.
Our policies are designed to protect the health of everyone who attends Burnside Hospital by eliminating exposure to tobacco smoke and related products in and around the hospital. Our hospital is committed to reducing harm caused by the use of tobacco, e-cigarettes and vapes, promoting a positive message of health and well-being across the community.
For improved post-operative outcomes, we recommend patients stop smoking prior to surgery and refrain from smoking for at least two weeks after surgery.
We encourage anyone seeking support to quit smoking to visit the Quitline website or call 13 78 48 for guidance and resources.
As part of our dedication to creating a safe and healthy environment, we also ask that visitors refrain from bringing alcohol onto Burnside Hospital’s premises.
Together we can create a healthier environment for all who come to Burnside Hospital.
Consumption of Alcohol
Burnside Hospital is committed to maintaining a safe, healthy and supportive environment for all our patients, staff, and visitors. As part of this commitment, we ask that visitors refrain from bringing alcohol onto hospital grounds.
For maternity patients and their newborn babies, we understand that the birth of a child is a time for celebration. However, we discourage the use of alcohol during this special time, as it may interfere with the health and well-being of both mother and baby.
Alcohol consumption can impact recovery and may also pose safety risks, particularly in the maternity ward where new mothers and their infants require the utmost care and attention.
To ensure a safe and healing environment for all, we request that guests respect this policy and find alternative ways to celebrate.
If you require any further information or assistance regarding our alcohol policy, please feel free to speak with our staff.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
Interpreter Service
Burnside Hospital deeply cares that every patient feels understood, comfortable, and supported throughout their Hospital experience.
Communication is an essential part of delivering high-quality care, and we recognise that language barriers can sometimes make medical experiences more challenging. To address this, we offer interpreter services for patients and their families who require assistance with language or communication during their hospital stay.
Our interpreter services help you fully understand your care plan, medical instructions, and important information about your medical procedure, treatment and recovery.
Professional interpreters assist in a wide variety of languages, ensuring that every detail is communicated accurately and effectively. This service helps bridge any gaps in communication, allowing you to feel confident and well-informed.
To help us provide the best possible support, we encourage you to inform us about your interpreter needs as early as possible. This will allow us to arrange for an interpreter to be available whenever you need them.
Clergy / Pastoral Care / Cultural Support
The team at Burnside Hospital understands the importance of spiritual care and the comfort it can provide during your hospital experience. While we do not offer in-house chaplaincy services, we are committed to supporting your spiritual needs.
If you would like spiritual guidance or assistance during your stay, our staff are more than happy to contact your chosen spiritual representative on your behalf. Whether it's a visit from a clergy member, pastor, or another faith leader, we can help coordinate their presence to align with your preferences and requirements.
To ensure that your spiritual needs are met and allow us to make the necessary arrangements, we encourage you to inform us of any specific requests prior to your admission.
