Smoking Policy

Burnside Hospital is committed to ensuring the health and safety of staff, patients and visitors.

Smoking is prohibited throughout Burnside Hospital buildings and adjoining outdoor areas within 15 metres of the building perimeter. Attunga Garden is also declared a smoke free environment and signage to that effect is in place with the formal consent of the City of Burnside.

Electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) which deliver nicotine through a battery powered system are also not permitted for use by personnel, patients or visitors. These products have not been evaluated for quality, safety or performance by the TGA and the impact on the community could be harmful.

The purpose of this policy is to protect the health of hospital personnel, patients and visitors by eliminating exposure to tobacco smoke on and adjacent to Burnside Hospital property.

In addition, Burnside Hospital is committed to leading a reduction in harm caused by tobacco through the delivery of a congruent message to our community about how tobacco smoke harms health.
