Our birthing suites are designed for your comfort and peace of mind. Each suite is spacious, featuring calming décor and tranquil courtyard views creating a soothing and private space for you to welcome your baby.

Equipped with the latest medical technology, the suites offer wireless monitoring for both you and your baby, multifunctional birthing beds, and a range of comfort tools to help during your labour. You’ll also find ensuite facilities, music options, a television, bedside telephone, and Wi-Fi access. A kitchenette within the unit is available for you and your support person to use.

Our maternity unit is supported by a fully equipped operating suite available 24/7, ensuring prompt care in any unexpected situation. Our High Dependency Unit provides specialised care for mothers who may require extra monitoring or medical support during or after birth. Should your baby need additional care, our Special Care Nursery is  staffed by highly trained professionals dedicated to your baby’s wellbeing.

Your Postnatal Room

After the birth of your baby we want to ensure you feel comfortable and cared for in a peaceful and private setting. That’s why we guarantee you a beautifully appointed private room located on either the ground floor or first floor of Burnside Hospital.

The ground floor rooms feature direct access to a tranquil courtyard, giving you the chance to unwind in the open air. Regardless of your room location, all patients can enjoy the serene Attunga Gardens, a picturesque outdoor space  available throughout the day, along with the relaxing atmosphere of Café Otto for a refreshment or light meal.

Your room is thoughtfully designed for your comfort and convenience, offering a private en suite, a mini fridge for snacks and drinks, a television for entertainment, and a telephone for easy communication with your loved ones. We’ve also provided a nurse call handset, ensuring you’re never more than a moment away from the support you need. For your convenience, there’s a hairdryer, Wi-Fi access, and easy access to a shared kitchenette stocked with essential items for your comfort and care.

During your stay you’ll enjoy an à la carte meal service, thoughtfully prepared by our on-site chefs. Our culinary team takes pride in offering delicious, nutritious meals to support your recovery and enhance your hospital experience. You can choose from a variety of menu options, carefully crafted to suit your preferences and dietary needs.

If you need any assistance or advice, rest assured our team of experienced midwives is just a call bell away. Whether it’s day or night, they’re here to support you with any questions or guidance you may need during your recovery, helping you feel confident as you care for your newborn.

Please note that room configurations vary across the hospital, and we allocate rooms based on clinical needs and activity within the unit.

Your partner is more than welcome to stay with you, ensuring they can actively participate in your baby’s care and support you during this special time.

Special Care Nursery

Our accredited Level 4 Nursery is centrally located and fully equipped to provide the highest standard of care for your baby. This nurturing environment is the perfect place for you to learn essential skills in newborn care, so you can feel confident and well-prepared when it's time to take baby home.

If your baby requires additional care or monitoring, our dedicated team of highly trained professionals will be by their side every step of the way, working around the clock to support your baby’s growth, recovery, and wellbeing.

Our team’s tireless commitment ensures that your baby receives the best care possible, promoting health and recovery in a compassionate, supportive environment.

Should your baby need admission to the Special Care Nursery for monitoring or treatment, they will become a formally admitted patient. In most cases, your health fund may charge an excess for your baby’s care, unless otherwise advised.

We recommend contacting your health fund before you deliver to clarify any concerns about nursery admission costs and to ensure your baby is registered on your family policy.

Some babies require continued care in the nursery after your discharge from the Maternity Unit. While we are unable to provide overnight accommodation for mothers in this situation, we will make every effort to offer "rooming-in" services to help you stay close to your baby just before their discharge.
