On the Day of Your Admission
We look forward to welcoming you to Burnside Hospital and supporting you through your healthcare procedure. Your comfort, care and wellbeing are at the heart of everything we do.
Your surgery time will be determined by your doctor, who will schedule your procedure and advise you when to arrive at the hospital.
To help us provide you with the best clinical care and avoid potential delays to your surgery preparation, please:
What to Bring
- A glasses case or contact lens storage case if you wear glasses or contact lenses.
- A copy of your Medical Power of Attorney, Advanced Care Directive and/or Living Will, if you have them.
- Your Medicare card.
- Your private health card.
- Concessions Safety Net, or DVA cards (if applicable).
- Your Commonwealth senior health card (if applicable).
- A credit card for payment of your account(s).
- Your Claim Number (for workers compensation patients) and contact details for your case manager (if applicable).
- Pharmaceutical benefits and pension cards (if applicable).
- Your current medication in original packaging (including insulin, supplements, and alternative treatments) with the prescribed dosage clearly marked. Medications must be in the original packaging and in your name to be administered safely in the hospital. Please note, we do not accept medication in Webster packs and dosettes.
- Up to date list of all current medications from your GP.
- A list of your known allergies.
- Relevant x rays, scans or medical reports.
- Aids (mobility, visual, hearing) if applicable.
- CPAP or any other health related electrical equipment if applicable.
- Pyjamas and dressing gown.
- Nonslip supportive slippers.
- Comfortable clothes.
- Toiletries.
- Something to read.
- Your pregnancy health record (maternity patients, Toorak Gardens).
What NOT to Bring
- Excessive luggage.
- Talcum powder (prohibited).
- Valuables - Burnside Hospital cannot accept responsibility for loss, theft or damage to personal property brought in by patients.
We kindly ask that you remove all piercings, make up and nail polish. Wedding rings can be removed or taped prior to surgery.
For Sleep Centre Patients
If you have a beard, there’s no need to shave it for your sleep study - your care and the quality of the recording will still be just as thorough.
