Construction Commences on the Godfree House Redevelopment

Untitled design 22

Burnside Hospital is pleased to announce the commencement of major construction works on the Godfree House Redevelopment, marking another significant milestone in the delivery of the Burnside Hospital Health Precinct.

Following several weeks of site establishment and preparation works, construction will officially commence on Monday, 13 July 2026, with the project entering its first major phase of excavation and basement construction.

The redevelopment represents a significant investment in the future of Burnside Hospital and our commitment to delivering contemporary healthcare facilities that will support the growing needs of our community for many years to come.

Entering the Construction Phase

The initial stage of construction will focus on the excavation and construction of the project's double basement, which will form the foundation of the new development.

As construction progresses, the site will become an active construction zone for an anticipated period of approximately two years. During this time, the community can expect to see steady progress as the building takes shape through each stage of the redevelopment.

While every effort will be made to minimise disruption, there will be periods of increased activity as significant construction milestones are reached.

Construction activities will generally occur during the following hours:

  • Monday to Saturday
  • 7:00am to 6:00pm (where required)

These working hours are in accordance with the project's approvals and industry requirements.

Increased Construction Activity

As construction progresses, the level of activity on site will increase significantly as the redevelopment moves through its early stages. Residents, patients, visitors and staff can expect to see regular movements of construction vehicles and heavy machinery entering and exiting the site, including excavation equipment, concrete trucks, concrete pumps, delivery vehicles transporting building materials, and other specialised machinery required to support the construction process.

The initial excavation and basement construction works are among the most intensive phases of the project and may result in increased construction noise, vehicle movements and general activity around the hospital precinct. While we recognise that these works may cause some temporary disruption, they are a necessary part of delivering the new development safely, efficiently and to the highest standard.

Our project team is committed to carefully managing construction activities to minimise impacts wherever possible, while maintaining a safe environment for patients, visitors, staff, neighbouring residents and all road users throughout the duration of the redevelopment.

Your Safety. Our Priority.

The safety of our staff, patients, visitors, contractors and neighbours remains a priority throughout the redevelopment.

Traffic Management and Community Safety

Maintaining the safety of our patients, staff, visitors, neighbours and the wider community remains a priority throughout the redevelopment.

Comprehensive traffic management measures will be in place during construction, including qualified traffic controllers where required, temporary traffic signage, reduced speed zones and directional signage to assist both vehicles and pedestrians moving around the hospital precinct.

These measures have been designed to minimise disruption while ensuring safe access to the hospital and surrounding properties.

We encourage everyone travelling through the area to follow all traffic signage and directions provided by traffic management personnel.

Keeping our Community Informed

We recognise that a redevelopment of this scale will have an impact on our surrounding neighbourhood, and we sincerely appreciate the patience, understanding and cooperation of our community as these works progress.

As key milestones are achieved, we will continue to provide updates on construction progress, upcoming works and any activities that may affect access, parking or traffic movements around the hospital.

The Godfree House Redevelopment is an exciting investment in the future of Burnside Hospital, ensuring we continue to provide exceptional healthcare services in modern, purpose-built facilities for generations to come.

We thank our community for their continued support as we bring this important project to life.
