How to Enable Wi‑Fi Calling on Your Device While in Hospital ‑ iOS (iPhone) Users

A nurse in a blue checked shirt gently checks the wrist of an older male patient resting comfortably in a hospital bed with monitoring equipment.

Wi-Fi calling lets you make and receive calls and texts using a Wi-Fi network instead of your mobile signal. This is especially helpful in places with poor cellular coverage, like hospitals.

Follow the steps below to easily enable Wi-Fi calling on your iOS (iPhone) device while in Burnside Hospital.

Note: The steps to enable Wi-Fi Calling may vary slightly depending on your phone brand. For Samsung, Android 12 or later is required. For Oppo, Android 13 or later is required. For iPhone/iOS, iOS 9 or later is required. As a general guideline, devices from 2017 or newer are typically supported, depending on the brand.

  1. Open Settings
Tap the Settings app (grey gear icon) on your home screen.
  2. Go to Cellular / Mobile
  3. Tap Wi-Fi Calling
Look for “Wi Fi Calling” in the menu and open it.
  4. Turn On “Wi Fi Calling on This iPhone”
    Flip the switch—when it's green, it's enabled.
  5. All done!
You should now see “Wi‑Fi” next to your carrier’s name in the status bar when Wi‑Fi calling is active.
