Dr Lodewyk ‘Ludy’ du Plessis

Obstetrician and Gynaecologist

Lodewyk du Plessis (Ludy) is a certified specialist obstetrician and gynaecologist registered with The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG). He completed his specialist training in Adelaide across Women’s and Children’s, Lyell McEwin, Royal Adelaide and Queen Elizabeth hospitals.

He has experience managing both low and high risk pregnancies and aims to work alongside his patients and their partners to achieve the best outcome for both mother and baby.  He is happy to discuss individual birth preferences and is supportive of women hoping to achieve a vaginal birth after caesarean section (VBAC).

Ludy has a special interest in offering multidisciplinary care to women who have had injury to their pelvic floor. As such, he has accomplished advanced RANZCOG training modules in pelvic floor disorders (including prolapse repair, urodynamics, continence surgery) to offer wholistic care.

In addition, Ludy has completed advanced training modules in minimally invasive surgery and offers laparoscopic hysterectomy, laparoscopic treatment of endometriosis and operative hysteroscopies.

Beyond his life as a doctor, Ludy is a devoted husband and a proud father of two children – with a third on the way. Having immigrated from South Africa with his family as a child, he especially values family relationships and is honoured to share in others’ joy while caring for them during their pregnancy journey.

He currently offers both obstetrics and gynaecological services at Burnside Hospital and consults at his rooms in Norwood.
