Patient Amenities

The Burnside Hospital is a not-for-profit, private hospital focused on providing personalised, patient-centred care. Located just ten minutes from the city in Adelaide's leafy eastern suburbs, Burnside is easily accessible by bus or car. For those accompanying a patient from country areas, a range of accommodation is available nearby.

Supported by accredited Visiting Medical and Allied Health Practitioners (see Visiting Staff) and latest technology, Burnside offers a comprehensive range of acute medical, surgical, obstetric and specialised patient services within first-class facilities.

Highly trained and professional staff are dedicated to providing you with personalised care in a safe, friendly environment enhanced by a tranquil garden setting.

Our key values of teamwork, excellence and quality ensure that the patient is the main focus of our service delivery.

Burnside Hospital respects and upholds your rights to privacy protection. We are committed to complying with the Privacy Act 1988 (as amended) and the National Privacy Principles that were introduced on 21 December 2001.

All of our rooms, most of which are private, offer an ensuite bathroom, radio and a wall-mounted, remote-controlled television for your comfort. Your bedside telephone ensures that you can keep in touch with family and friends, with local calls free of charge. Internet access is not currently available from the patient bedside and we suggest if you wish to access the internet during your stay, then you may bring in a 3G broadband card or internet capable mobile handset to use with your laptop or notebook device. A daily newspaper is provided with our compliments.

We place particular emphasis on providing an appetising selection of freshly prepared and attractively presented meals. Our chefs are happy to discuss your individual dietary needs. Meals are delivered at the following times :

Breakfast 8am
Lunch 12noon
Dinner 5.30pm

Appetising morning and afternoon teas and supper ensure that you are refreshed throughout the day. You can enjoy wine or beer with your evening meal, unless advised otherwise by your doctor.

Burnside Hospital has adopted liberalised visiting hours during the day to ensure that our patients needs in relation to their personal and care requirements are met. Patients are encouraged to discuss their preferred visiting arrangements with family and friends (who should come and when) and confirm these with their nurse on admission.  However, treatment times and the need for rest is also an important consideration so it advisable to check with the patient and / or the ward nurse before visiting. Visitors are requested to approach the Ward Nurses Station prior to visiting a patient for the first time and to observe signage on room doors.

Each day between 12.30pm and 2.00pm, we endeavour to promote a "rest period" for all patients. Visits and telephone calls should be made outside this time whenever possible.

Our modern Café Otto on the ground floor offers freshly-made coffee, light meals, snacks, gifts and magazines. Vending machines are located near the stairs on the ground floor.

Burnside is fortunately located within the beautiful surroundings of the Attunga Heritage Garden. Our staff are happy to direct you to the garden to enjoy its tranquility.

In the interests of good health and patient safety, Burnside Hospital is a "NO SMOKING" facility. Smoking within the hospital precinct is strictly prohibited except in one designated outdoor area located on the ground floor.

If you are not currently a member of a health insurance fund, you can be admitted to Burnside at your own expense. To obtain an estimate of the cost of your procedure and the payment options available, please call us on 8202 7201 and ask to speak with a member of our Accounts Department.
