BURNSIDE HOSPITAL MATERNITY UNIT REOPENS

The Burnside Hospital Maternity Unit resumed normal operations this afternoon at 4.00pm.

The reopening of the Unit follows the completion, yesterday, of a thorough environmental clean to counter a bacterial skin infection that has affected a number of babies born at the hospital in recent weeks.

An inspection was also carried out by a Consultant Infectious Diseases Physician and Clinical Microbiologist, who confirmed that the Burnside Hospital Maternity Unit is safe to resume caring for patients.

We have also informed all Visiting Obstetricians and relevant staff of the unit’s re-opening.

Women who are booked to deliver their baby at the Burnside Hospital in the coming days and weeks are invited to contact the Maternity Services Manager on 8202 7217 should they have any questions or concerns.
