New Cafe Otto and Premier Sleep Centre Now Open

Patient privacy and comfort are the by-words at the newly refurbished Burnside War Memorial Hospital. As a result of our $10 million redevelopment, Burnside now offers all single rooms with en suite facilities.

This landmark project has created a comfortable, restful environment that combines modern finishes and natural light to promote patients' rapid recovery. Many rooms offer views over the Adelaide Hills and leafy streets, with the first-floor patient retreat overlooking the tranquil Attunga Heritage Garden.

Welcome to Cafe Otto

The stylish new Cafe Otto is now open in the main foyer. Offering garden views, the cafe is named in honour of the hospital's original benefactor, Mr Otto von Rieben, who gave his property Attunga to the local Council in the 1940's to establish Burnside Hospital. The volunteer-run cafe serves a range of quality coffee, light meals, drinks, snacks and gifts.

Premier Sleep & Respiratory Centre Opens

On Sunday 24 November, the newly upgraded Burnside Sleep and Respiratory Centre opened. Highly trained, friendly technicians provide an extensive service to diagnose a broad range of sleep disorders in adults including snoring, sleep apnoea, bruxism, abnormal body movements, excessive sleepiness and narcolepsy. Treatment studies include Continuous and Variable Positive Airway Pressure.

Comprising six comfortably furnished private rooms with en suites, king-size single bed, individual airconditioning and state-of-the-art soundproofing, the centre is designed for optimal patient comfort. The modern decor is supported by the very latest diagnostic and treatment systems, and advanced sterilising facilities.

The centre incorporates a respiratory investigation service (lung function unit). Our qualified repiratory technicians perform investigations including detailed lung function tests, histamine provocation, hypertonic saline challenge, arterial blood gases, pulse oximetry and skin allery testing. A doctor's referral is required for these services.

Burnside Hospital's five-star facilities are setting a new benchmark for private hospital accommodation in Adelaide and complement the hallmark standard of care and service provided for medical, surgical and maternity patients.
