In July, Mercedes-Benz Authorised Dealer, B.E.A. Motors, will host a function to raise money for the Burnside Hospital Foundation.  In particular, the focus is on raising funds that will enable the purchase of a Knee Navigation System, which is designed to improve the surgical performance and clinical outcome of knee replacement surgery.

The cost is approximately $180,000.

On two days in May, the hospital acknowledged International Midwives Day (5th)  and International Nurses Day (12th). Patients were invited to say “thank you” to the midwifery and nursing staff looking after them.  Many took the opportunity to provide some magnificent feedback including the following:

"What a vital role midwives play in delivering a baby. I had the pleasure of meeting three beautiful, caring and supportive midwives during my labour. They were all wonderful!!"

"It is the staff that have the biggest impact on your stay. All the midwives have been supportive and friendly in their care of me and my son. Thank you to all the midwives who have cared for me during my stay."

"All of the midwives here are wonderful. I've just had my fourth child here and have had the same wonderful care as the first time."

"Was impressed with my nurse that looked after me for my day surgery."

"Thank you for the fantastic assistance I received during my stay."

"Thank you to all the nursing staff. Nothing was too much trouble."

"The nurses here were very professional, solicitous and caring and for that a big 'thank you' must be said!"

"I found the nursing staff very gentle, personable and considerate. Thank you."

"From the time of admission and throughout the night I felt especially cared for, particularly by the nurse who was with me prior to entering the operating theatre and also the night nurse who had the most gentle and caring manner. Thank you all. You are wonderful!"

"I have spent 12 months 'visiting' the chemo ward and have only high praise for the staff and volunteers. I have been impressed with their professionalism, efficiency, caring and friendship."

"I feel very grateful to have the special care of the nurses in this area (oncology). Their kindness, care, compassion has helped me through a very difficult time in my life."

"My wife who attends as a patient and I were first amazed then delighted at the efficiency and friendliness of the oncology staff and the very supportive voluntary personnel who combine to make what might otherwise be a confronting experience one that was relaxing and comforting. Words alone cannot convey the thanks that we extend to all who contributed to make the oncology unit outstanding."
