A Pink Ribbon breakfast will be hosted from 7.30am – 9am on Monday 22nd of October to raise funds for breast cancer research through the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Foods have been kindly donated by Tip Top bakeries, Cannelle French Pastries, The Breast Cancer Foundation, Burnside Hospital and staff and volunteers at the hospital.

The Staff at the hospital support the Cancer Council South Australia by buying the pink ribbon tea-shirts that can be worn on 22nd October when Burnside Hospital goes pink to support breast cancer, and through the sale of pink ribbon merchandise.
The funds raised through Pink Ribbon Day will enable The Cancer Council to:
- Fund breast cancer research.
- Help those affected by breast cancer right now, by offering support services to help them and their family through their cancer diagnosis and treatment.
- Educate women to be 'breast aware'.
Breast Cancer affects 1: 8 women in Australia.
Many do not have breast cancer but have concerns about their breasts because of breast pain, breast lumps, nipple discharge or a family history of breast cancer.
Investigation of these lumps often proves to be non-cancerous.
Some of the symptoms that require review by a General Practitioner and referral to a Specialist Breast Surgeon are:
- A lump
- Lumpiness
- Any change in the shape of the breast or dimpling of the skin
- An area that feels different from the rest
- Discharge from a nipple
- A pulling in of the nipple (inverted nipple)
- Breast pain
