Accreditation with the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards
(ACHS)
Burnside Hospital, Toorak Gardens has been accredited by the ACHS
continuously since 1985. This is professional and national recognition
awarded to health care facilities that meet defined standards. At
Burnside, we believe that our commitment to continuous improvement
in all we do ensures the highest standard of care and service delivery
for our patients and clients. Your impressions of your stay are important
to us. Your comments or suggestions for improvement are always welcome
and help us to monitor and maintain high standards of care.
Following a Periodic Review in September 2008, the Burnside War Memorial Hospital has gained continuing accreditation with the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS).
The surveyors noted in particular extensive achievement and outcomes in the following areas:
- Care Evaluation
- Infection Control
- Risk Management
- Incident, Complaint, and Feedback Management
- Credentialing of Health Professionals
In addition the surveyors provided positive feedback and comments including:
- Within a short time of walking through Burnside Hospital it is obvious that it is an organization that cares;
- Excellent Pre-admission Service with good processes in place for at risk consumers including effective discharge planning
- Amazing work in the infection control area, thrilled to see the level of engagement of all staff and visitors in this area;
- It is obvious that the organization is Quality and Risk focused. Examining the issues around the Bundaberg Enquiry was a great initiative in this area;
- Proactive management of complaints and incidents is evident;
- There is good evidence to suggest that the hospital takes credentialing and the performance of Medical Practitioners very seriously with processes in place for the introduction of new technology and procedures
ACHS accreditation is a significant achievement as it serves as a sign to the community that the Hospital is committed to delivering quality care and service and it is formal recognition of our high level of care and desire to continually improve quality, safety and service for our patients
