Accreditation with the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards
(ACHS)
Burnside Hospital, Toorak Gardens has been accredited by the ACHS
continuously since 1985. This is professional and national recognition
awarded to health care facilities that meet defined standards. At
Burnside, we believe that our commitment to continuous improvement
in all we do ensures the highest standard of care and service delivery
for our patients and clients. Your impressions of your stay are important
to us. Your comments or suggestions for improvement are always welcome
and help us to monitor and maintain high standards of care.
Following a two day Organisation Wide Survey early in September 2010, the Burnside War Memorial Hospital has again achieved continuing accreditation with the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS).
The surveyors noted in particular extensive achievement and outcomes in 21 of the 45 criteria , 9 of which are mandatory criteria. Extensive Achievement ratings were attained in the following areas:

In addition the surveyors provided very positive feedback and comments including:
- The Hospital has a very welcoming, clean environment.Within a short time of walking through Burnside Hospital it is obvious that it is an organization that cares;
- Very friendly and caring staff.
- The Hospital appears to be well resourced to manage care
- Good security systems in place.
- Overall clinical environment is excellent with clear unobstructed corridors
- Well organised CSSD
- Catering and cleaning areas are well supported by the Infection Control System.
- Impressive Maternity Outreach Program.
- Excellent clinical education Program with new e-learning initiatives.
ACHS accreditation is a significant achievement as it serves as a sign to the community that the Hospital is committed to delivering quality care and service and it is formal recognition of our high level of care and desire to continually improve quality, safety and service for our patients
